The existing 41' L X 23' W bridge is structurally deficient and will be replaced with a new 100'L X 39'W bridge at the same location. An off-site detour will be utilized during construction. No wetlands were identified within nor adjacent to the project area. Buffer impacts are necessary to construct the bridge to NCDOT standards. Proposed buffer impacts include 4402 sf of buffer within Zone 1 and 2054 sf of buffer within Zone 2 to accommodate the wider span and the necessary fill slopes. The project also proposes 61 linear feet of permanent stream impacts for the purpose of Transpodatir. An additional IO' to eit[ier side of the NCDOT's ex'rsting 60' ROW will 6e required, starting about 100' soutti ofihc existi3g Uridge to approximateiy 250' north of the bridge. From an euvironmentai perspective, the APE consists prunarily of Chewacla sandy Ioatn (Ch) Followed by Mec]denburg sandy clay loam, 2-6% siopes, eroded (M(iE32). Tlius, much of Uie project area is commonly floodeci for hrief periods based on the presence of poorly draiued soils whereas the remaiuder lias been affected by erosion. Moreover, mast of [he preject area is ca#egorized as a Flood Hazazd Zone, based on an overlay oP fToodplaiu mappiig. In addition, the Office of State Archzeaology (OSA) has reviewed one (I) project witlin the aic;iziry of Bridge No. 38, for which the probabili#y of containing nuact chaeological materials was considered low by OSA because of the preseuee of eraded soils (i.e. MIiB2, similar to what "Na ARCIiAELLOGYSUAVL•'7'REQ[IIRED "fona jor MinmTrasyarloliar Prajeris as Qna7ifierlin !he 200] Programmnl7eAgreement. 1 of2 Projecl Trwckingd'o:: 13-02-0438 is present witlun tUe APE).
