East Durham Outfall Repairs - Project Narrative The City of Durham is constructing anew sanitary sewer outfall and abandoning the failing existing sanitary sewer outfall. The sewer is referred to as the East Durham Outfall. The proposed new sewer outfall will be 10- inches in diameter, which is the same size as the existing sewers in the project. This linear project involves dig and replace practices. The dig and replace areas require parallel pipe installation and ,abandonment of the existing pipe. There area few areas where the proposed',im prove ment recommendation includes relocating the interceptor away from existing creeks. Disturbed stream bank will be minimized and rip rap stabilization will be used. This project involves rehabilitation work on an existing sewer in a built -upon area. Work does occur within the designated Riparian Buffer Zone for the Neuse River Basin. Zone 1 work is allowable with mitigation and impacts are approximately 27,080 square feet (5,245 square feet of mitigation). Zone 2 work is allowable without, mitigation and includes 13,359 square feet (0 °square,'feet of mitigation). The 58'linear feet�of stream work should not result in a loss of use as the streambed will be restored to a natural condition and the banks will be stabilized with riprap /gabion mattress.
