I have a few questions. First, as this project was part of the larger US 221 widening project (R -2597) it is
important that the alignment of the bridge matches the alignment needed for one of the two bridges planned
for in the widening project that will convert this roadway to a divided highway. Please explain the level of
coordination between the projects and ensure that no aspect of the bridge replacement will negatively impact
the R -2597 propect.
Site 1— It appears the UT will somehow be dumped into a new ditch then into the new culvert from there. The
plans do not show how the stream gets into the ditch; it just looks like the ditch is just laid across the channel.
The flow would go through the riprap, into the ditch at a right angle, flow a short ways and make another right
angle into the new culvert. There needs to be a more natural channel design to move the stream from flowing
into the old culvert to flowing into the new culvert.
Sites 1, 3, and 4/5 — Do all the outlets have a stable riprap -free channel to the downstream receiving waters
(Second Broad River)?
