Good morning Kevin, Thank you for contacting the Muscogee (Creek)Nation concerning the proposed Improvement of Roaring Branch Road, SR-1339, in Ashe County, North Carolina. This project is located within our Tribe's historic area of interest and continues to hold importance for us. After reviewing the material sent, it was noted that the APE is occurring predominantly within the right-of-way and that only a small area of undisturbed properties will need to be used. Additionally, the area is comprised of slopes greater than 15 percent. Due to this, it has been determined that the Muscogee (Creek)Nation believes that there should be no effects to any known historic properties. However, due to the historic presence of our people in the project area, if any inadvertent discoveries of cultural material (i.e. artifacts) and/or human remains and/or funerary objects are noted during any required repair work that includes ground disturbance, we request to be notified as soon as the discovery is made and that appropriate federal agencies are also notified. Additionally, if there are any updates or changes to the proposed project, we request that the information be sent to our office for further review. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
