Tim,
Thank you for extending the deadline to the 28". After discussing with the project team, we would like to schedule a
site visit to discuss the available options for stabilization of this channel. DO you have a couple of dates that would work
for you that we can schedule around?
Thanks!

Crystal,
Thanks for your response. Kevin and Andrew assisted me while I was on vacation last week. If you don't feel you will be
able to provide the additional information by the November 14" deadline then you may request an extension and the
project will remain on hold until the new deadline date.
How about Friday, November 28th for a new deadline. If you need more time we can discuss further on the 28".
Thanks and if you have any additional questions let us know.
Tim

Kevin and Andrew,
Thank you for taking the time to speak to us about this. With so many moving parts— landowners, safety, access etc —
things get complicated pretty quickly. I will pass on to the Engineer's and the client and get back to you ASAP. In the
meantime, can you please place this project "oh hold" as it may take longer to pull this together than November 14.
Thanks!

Subject: Sweetwater Hill Drive Stream Restoration
Good morning Crystal:
After in -office discussion, the DWR has concerns about this submittal. We ask that you look at the following:
The proposed gabion basket design will likely result in down channel scour due to stormwater discharges and
the energy created by a —8 foot drop in channel elevation.
The proposed backfilled channel will essentially create an 80 foot long riffle, utilizing rip -rap as a channel bed
material. There is no included proposed channel cross - sectional detail. Utilizing large rock (compared to a
natural channel of similar dimension and drainage area) will likely result in storm flow energy being dissipated
by those erosive velocityvectors not being able to move bedload, will scour the adjacent stream banks, resulting
in instability.
We ask that you evaluate the following alternative design ideas:
• Constructing a rock cross vein immediately below the existing gas line, which would have a smaller step down to
the channel reach below, ( reducing the potential energy scour below the structure). (This may be a traditional
cross vein, or a step tiered structure such as an "A" vein to help deal with storm flow energy)
• Utilizing a "reference" stone size for any resultant backfilled channel as to provide a "natural bedload" substrate
to mimic natural processes such as bedload movement during storm events.
Please include these discussions as part of any response you prepare for the issued Request for Additional information.
Thank you,
Kevin and Andrew
