Subject: Campbell's Stork Cleaning — Maxton NC
Based on a system volume of 9,000 gallons the quantities of chemicals required for 3
cycles are provided below. This process will not remove mineral scale. It is designed to
remove oils and greases, mill scale and rust while passivating the system.
Quantities of Reagents to order based on 9000 gallons and 3 cycles
CT-30 1 drum
CL-241 1 drum (250 gallon), Antifoam if necessary
CL-16 3 drums
CL3858 4 totes (250 gallon)
BL1240 6 drums
The CT-30 is for removal of oil, grease, or potential biofilm. This step should be
completed at operational temperatures for at least 12 hours to prepare the system for iron
removal and passivation. I would recommend at least 120 ° F for increased efficacy.
The next step in the process is for removal of mill scale and passivation of the mild steel.
It will require multiple repetitions to completely passivate the system. Once the system is
passivated, operating it in a corrosive environment will result in removal of the
passivation and corrosion. Corrosion inhibitions are necessary post passivation to protect
the system.
A data sheet is provided to document the cleaning process.
Process
1. Rinse the system then fill to 50% of target volume. Add 0.5 gallons of CL-241 to
each section.
2. Add one drum of CT-30 proportionately to each section. The pH should be at
least 9.5 in each section.
3. Fill to target volume.
4. Bring to temperature of 120 — 180° F and operate the chain for 12 — 24 hours.
5. Drain and rinse. Document the condition of the vessels.
6. Fill the system to 50% of the target volume
7. Add one drum BL-1240 proportionately to each section and check the ORP. The
additional drum will be added as necessary to maintain a negative ORP.
8. Add 330 gallons of CL3858 proportionately to each section. Bring to temperature
of 120 - 160°F and operate the chain for 24 — 30 hours.
9. Adjust the pH to 6.5 — 7.0 with CL-16.
10. Drain and flush. Document the condition of the vessels. The following analysis
is typical of discharged cleaning solutions.
PH 7.8
CONDUCTIVITY, MMHO 7911
'M'-ALKALINITY, AS CACO3, mg/L 2888
TOTAL HARDNESS, AS CACO3, mg/L 196

MAGNESIUM HARD. AS CACO3, mg/L 27
IRON, AS FE, mg/L 2158
COPPER, AS CU, mg/L 10.0
ZINC, AS ZN, mg/L 5.81
SODIUM, AS NA, mg/L 224
POTASSIUM, ASK, mg/L 4312
TOTAL ORGANIC CARBON, mg/L 1796
TOTAL PHOSPHATE, as PO4, mg/L 5231

NITRATE, AS NO3, mg/L <5
ORTHO-PHOSPHATE, AS PO4, mg/L 844
SILICA, AS S102, mg/L 21
11. Repeat steps 6 —10 for second cleaning cycle.
12. Repeat steps 6 —10 for third cleaning cycle.
The reaction rates of the passivation and cleaning process are impacted by system
conditions such as temperature, flow, pH, and aeration. The impact of these parameters
is provided below:
Flow Rate Higher flow rates increase cleaning rate. Maintain a minimum
velocity of 2. 0 ft/sec and a maximum of 10 ft/sec. for best results.
Temperature
Higher temperatures increase the cleaning rate. Do not exceed
180 °F. Typical cleaning times are 7 —14 days for chilled
systems (40 °F), 1- 2 days for 70 °F, and <1 day at 120 °F.
pH As pH increases the cleaning rate slows. Maintain a pH of 6.5 —
7.2 for best results. Lower pH result in accelerated corrosion.
ORP A negative ORP (-50 mV to —400 mV) is necessary for
passivation and minimizing corrosion rates.

COOLING WATER
MICROBIOCIDE
CHEMTREAT C2189T (Tablets)
EPA REG. NO. 5185-420-15300
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
CHEMTREAT C2189T is a concentrated dry formulation of halogen -releasing compound
designed to provide effective biocontrol in recirculating cooling water and air washer systems.
Since both bromine and chlorine are released, the product is effective in the presence of
ammonia nitrogen and at elevated pH. Application of CHEMTREAT C2189T destroys the
biofilm, which might otherwise impede effective heat transfer.
CHEMTREAT C2189T is certified NSF/ANSI Standard 60 for use in disinfection and
oxidation algicide applications at a maximum use rate of 3 mg/L shipped from Adrian,
Michigan.

Section 13. Disposal Considerations
PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: Pesticide wastes are toxic. Improper disposal of excess pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsate is a
violation of Federal Law. If these wastes cannot be disposed of by use according to label instructions, contact your
State Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency, or the Hazardous Waste representative at the nearest EPA Regional
Office for guidance. CONTAINER DISPOSAL: Triple rinse (or equivalent). Then offer for recycling or reconditioning, or
puncture and dispose of in a sanitary landfill, or incineration, or if allowed by state and local authorities, by
burning. If burned, stay out of smoke.
EPA ignitibility characteristic hazardous waste D001 when disposed of in the original product form.
