The tree is not very large, but it may seem so with the extra vegetation that has attached itself to the tree. You can see from the top of the picture that the tree is dead. It will come out easily. I have not approached the owner about planting more trees, but given the number of trees that we do remove on a typical shoreline project, this dead tree and root ball ball (most likely is rotted) can be managed without causing damage to the buffer. It seems like a fairly large tree with most likely an extensive root system. Is there any way to work around it or would that suffocate the roots? Similarly, if you can't work around it, would the homeowners be willing to replant a few trees in its place?
