You may at least wish to consider direct discharge, I think they have a 6" line that terminates at the facility on running down Gaston St. Also, I think the costs to discharge may be somewhat flexible but MSD (sewer authority) would have final say on that topic but possibly worth pursuing. Thanks, keep me posted please. Based on the previously submitted plans and comments therein, I understand you will be treating the groundwater produced from drilling to an acceptable level prior to discharge to the storm sewer. The plan you submitted simply states 'sump pump' and has no further information regarding the treatment of water produced during drilling prior to discharge. Without additional information, it is difficult to determine if you have sufficient plans and structures in place to treat water to an acceptable level. One option you may wish to pursue, which would simplify your efforts, is to determine if you can discharge to sanitary sewer in the area. This option has been pursued by other geothermal contractors in our area. To discuss this option, please contact Linda Wiggs at 828-296-4500. She can then discuss the option, should you choose to pursue it, with the local sewer authority. If you have further information about how water will be treated, please forward that information to me. Sincerely, Landon by statute or other regulation From: James Hinte[mailto:ihinte(&midsouthgeothermal.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 1:21 PM To: Davidson, Landon Cc: 'Karen Bisso' Subject: WC Reid Geothermal project Good afternoon Landon. Attached is our run off containment plan. We are installing our own temporary sediment basin to capture our runoff and will install a sump pit in the well field area for the water to do to first. We will pump from there to the sediment basin. Please call me if you have any questions. On March 11, 2013, we received your notification of installation of a closed loop geothermal system to be installed at 133 Livingstone Street in Asheville, NC. Please provide the following supplemental information: 1. The construction plan states that the contractor is responsible for management of groundwater produced during well construction. Please provide additional information on how Midsouth will manage groundwater during construction of the wells. If you wish to have a meeting with me to discuss your plans, please let me know; 2. The plans indicate that the storm drain inlet will be located in the area designated for a sediment basin; please provide information as to how the drain inlet will be protected from receiving sediment laden groundwater produced during drilling; and, The site contractor has undercut the parking lot and has installed protection around the inlet. 3. Please verify that efforts and devices used to 'treat' groundwater produced during drilling are separate from erosion control devices used onsite and designed (ie., sized) for onsite erosion control only (i.e., not designed to receive and treat high volumes of groundwater). Thanks. Please find attached general guidance on managing groundwater produced during well construction.
