Good housekeeping includes the following: • Keeping the work area clean by storing materials properly and keeping area under foot clear of debris that might be slipping or tripping hazards • Placing scraps of food, paper, drink containers, waste material and other debris in cans, receptacles or containers provided. • Cleaning up all oil, grease, and other spills. • Storing oily waste, rags, and other flammable waste only in metal receptacles provided for that purpose. • Not storing any materials in, on, or near electrical switch boxes or panels. • Keeping aisles and walkways clear at all times. • Maintaining access to fixed ladders, stairways, electrical switches, and firefighting, rescue or any other emergency equipment. • Keeping tools neatly in the proper place and supplies and materials securely racked or piled. • Washing hands before eating. 1.6 FIRE PREVENTION/PROTECTION Employees have a personal responsibility in the prevention and control of fires in the workplace. For effective fire prevention/ protection, the following shall apply for all Town employees: • Become familiar with the building fire evacuation plan at their facilities, including the primary and secondary escape routes. • Obey all rules, regulations and signs for fire safety, such as those controlling smoking, open flames, and other sources of ignition and those controlling the storage, handling, and use of flammable liquids or other hazardous materials. • Practice good housekeeping: remember that without fuel a fire cannot exist.
