Dana,
I will need one last item from you in order to issue the variance for Lot 818 at Lake Royale. I will need
to know how you will achieve the mitigation requirement for a variance. Mitigation is payment into a
buffer restoration fund or planting trees in the first 30-feet of the buffer.
If you choose to pay into the fund, one choice is with EEP (Ecosystem Enhancement Program). You
have to mitigate for the driveway and the house at 1.5 to 1 ratio.
So the total mitigation square footage will be: 3,188 square feet. You would multiply the 3,188 by 96
cents to know the total dollar amount.
If you choose to plant trees (if the first 30 feet of your buffer isn't presently forested), just send me a
list of the trees you want to plant, when you plan on planting them (it would have to be sometime in
Sept or October) and show me on the plan sheet you had originally submitted, where the trees will be
planted. For 3,188 square feet of mitigation required, you would need to plant 23 trees or a mixture of
trees and shrubs. 3shrubs =ltree.
I've attached the In Lieu Fee form you would need to fill out and submit to Kelly Williams at EEP if
you choose to pay mitigation. Her email is: kelly.williams@ncmail.net and her number is:
919-716-1921 if you have questions about the form. If you choose to do plantings, I've attached the
Guidelines to Riparian Buffer Restoration to assist you in what can be planted.
Thanks.
-Amy
