SSGP 10 -2013 Page 3 of 3 I 1 v n ST E WA R T June 25, 2014 REPORT - PHASE I SHORELINE EVALUATION Applicant - Thomas & Patricia Paffrath 1040 Crane View Road Salisbury, NC 28146 Location - 1040 Crane View Road Reservoir - High Rock Lake A. Shoreline Evaluation - A shoreline evaluation of the subject fproperty was completed on 6/18/14. A copy of the field ,notes and' shoreline map are attached to this report A set of photographs, taken during visit have been sent to APGI for the ,permit file The extent of erosion varies along the shoreline but is generally 12 to 18 inches in height with only minor undercut There is an existing wood pier and existing rip rap located on the southern section of the lake frontage and there is an existing landscape area with rip rap stabilization located on the shoreline frontage (refer to shoreline map attached). No vegetation was observed on the lake bottom and no lap trees were observed Orientation of the shoreline appears to present a moderate exposure to wind driven waves and boat wakes B. Recommendations - Based on the site evaluation for the property, we recommend that stabilization be completed as follows 1 No existing vegetation or trees along the shoreline should be impacted by the proposed shoreline stabilization 2. Since the eroded shoreline is only 12 to 18 inches in height, grading of the shoreline is not necessary. The contractor can trim exposed tree roots, and place the non -woven fabric and rip rap by hand to complete the stabilization. t timi rre ry 200 SOUTH COLLEGE ST CHARLOTTE, NC T 704 334 7925 SUITE 720 28202 F'704 334 7926 a Jf S T E !/A R T 3 In the vicinity of the, existing sweet gum tree to remain, the contractor should protect the tree roots and install the non- woven fabric on the shoreline and install the rip rap stabilization by hand 4 Contractor shall carefully prepare the areas that are to receive stabilization. Install stabilization as indicated on the enclosed site map, in accordance with Detail 2, Minor Rip Rap Stabilization, (copy attached). 5 The area of the shoreline that is below the discharge point of the existing storm drainage pipe outlet shall have the rip rap stabilization installed such that the water from the pipe can flow over the stabilization at the shoreline The applicant may want to install rip rap in a shallow channel from the pipe outlet to the shoreline in order to prevent future erosion in this area. 5. Upon completion of shoreline stabilization, the owner will be required to provide vegetation in order to stabilize any disturbed areas above the rip -rap slope with APGI approved ground cover plant materials.
