Main St. Bessemer City, NC 20380 Subject: Animal Operation Site Inspection H-N-H Farm, Gaston County, NC Dear Mr. Harmon: North Carolina General Statute 143-215.10 (Senate Bill 1217) states that swine operations with 250 head or greater must be permitted. Because your facility is not certified and because of the type of operation (farrow to finish) you are operating, you must reduce your sow population below 25 animals until the facility is permitted. The 25 animals limit is based on the amount of waste generated for a farrow to finish operation. It is requested that you notify this office in writing by April 1, 1999 that the population has been reduced below'25 animals. To begin the permitting processyou must notify Sue Homewood at the following address: Nondischarge Permitting, Archdale Bldg., DWQ, P.O'. Box 29539, Raleigh, NC 27626. Please indicate how long you have been in business, the type of operation, the number of animals, and the facility's, maximum design capacity. Please provide as X.r much documentation as possible. Also, if the operation has had no animals on site for any period greater than a year, please include this information. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Johnson or me at (704) 663-1699. Sincerely, D. Rex Gleason, P.E.
