Subject: stream bank restoration, Carriage Park
Chuck Cranford,
As per our discussions the following outlines the steps we plan on taking to address the stream bank erosion in
Carriage Park:
install large boulders on the left side of the stream (as facing downstream) to absorb stream energy. One or two
rows of boulders will be utilized depending upon availability. filter fabric will be utilized behind the boulders,
stream bank behind boulders will adhere to a 2:1 slope maximum.
the stream channel will be centered away from the stone wall to match the width evident just upstream from the
eroded bank.
the right bank will adhere to a 3:1 slope maximum to allow for pooling in the more heavily vegetated right bank
area.
all disturbed soil will be covered with coir fiber to lessen erosion potential and vegetation will be planted with
guidance from the NCSU riparian vegetation manual. transplanting local plants will be featured and advise
from the local NCRS will be incorporated.
the work will be completed in the relatively dryer fall months of 2014. the work will be monitored quarterly at
least for one year with extra attention given to high rainfall events.
thanks for your help.
