The City of Gastonia is pleased to inform you that the Wastewater Treatment Division has an
Environmental Management System (EMS) and is seeking future registration with ISO 14001.
As part of our EMS, we are required to inform you of the EMS's existence and also provide you
with a copy of our environmental policy. We would request that a copy of this policy be
forwarded to all of your employees who might visit or work at any of our wastewater treatment
facilities. Anyone performing work or visiting any of our facilities should check in at the facility's
main office upon arrival. We would also ask that, prior to conducting any work or service, your
employees check with plant personnel concerning any EMS procedures or requirements that
their work may involve. We appreciate your cooperation in this manner and are appreciative of
your respective services or products utilized by our department. If you have any questions
regarding our Environmental Management System, please feel free to contact me at (704) 854-

WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
The City of Gastonia Wastewater Treatment Division is committed to the implementation
of a management system which will minimize negative and advance positive impacts on
the environment and which will control the wastewater treatment costs to be borne by the
consumer. Believing these goals to be fully achievable, the Wastewater Treatment
Division is firmly committed to and will:
• Establish procedures to promote continuing improvement of compliance with
all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Establish procedures to continue efforts to strengthen and improve knowledge
of environmental issues within the Division.
• Seek optimal operation of the Wastewater Treatment Facilities to minimize
environmental impacts where technically and economically feasible, even if
not required by law or regulation.
• Promote cooperation and understanding with the public, customers, and
governmental agencies in developing economically feasible and
environmentally sound wastewater treatment objectives.
• Continue to promptly report all noncompliance issues in accordance with
applicable governmental reporting requirements, evaluate causes of
noncompliance, and implement corrective actions.
• Establish procedures for periodic review of environmental compliance with all
laws and regulations, as well as with the ISO 14001 Environmental
Management System.
• Establish procedures to ensure all that employees are knowledgeable of, and
understand and comply with, all applicable environmental laws and
regulations.
• Promptly correct any practice or condition not in compliance with this policy.
All employees are expected to comply with the spirit as well as the letter of this policy.
