Dear Cindy Moore,
This letter is in response to the NOV & Intent for Civil Penalty issues on July 26, 2022, for failing
May 2022 Toxicity. It is believed that this violation occurred due to the continuous discharge we are
receiving from the WTP. We continue to monitor the Iron levels in our Influent flow, which continues to
be elevated. In receiving the elevated Iron from the WTP, we remain Non-Compliant for Ammonia, BOD,
and Nitrogen levels in our Effluent discharge due to the elevated Iron levels in the Influent flow inhibiting
the metabolism in our Activated Sludge.
We continue to work with Synagro to maintain sludge in hopes to maintain the health of the Oxidation
ditches as best we are able.We have them on a schedule where they come to haul every 3 weeks.We believe
this will help to maintain solids not only at the W WTP but also at the WTP so that the amount of solids we
receive from the WTP will be minimized as much as possible.
We also discovered that Mountaire Farms have been sending high amounts of CL2 from their
Effluent into the collections system to the W WTP. We started monitoring their grab and composite samples
daily. We required them to start monitoring as well. The Town also asked that they start a dechlor feed.
Which Mountaire Farms is in the process of doing.
The Town continues to be committed to improving the situations we have currently been faced with
and are continuing to research options to get us where we need to be to become compliant in the future.
