Subject: [Non-DoD Source] Beane Mitigation Site - Wildfire
Brad, Hannah, and Stephen,
We got a report earlier in the week that a wildfire broke out on the Cameron tract (Sidbury Land &
Timber, LLC) bordering the south of Beane Mitigation Site. It turns out the fire traveled underground
in the peat layer from one the burn piles on Beane and erupted south on the Cameron property. The
New Hanover County Fire Department and NC Forest Service (NCFS) were immediately notified and
right now the NCFS is in control of the situation. NCFS have dug some pretty serious fire lines around
an approx.. 11 acre area and right now they say the fire is suppressed and contained to that area,
though it is still smoldering. I am going to see if we can get authorization from the property owner to
fly a drone over this area. We will keep you updated on any developments with this.
Thanks,
Sean Farrell
