SUBJECT: Bridge to Culvert at existing crossing of Unnamed Tributary (UT) to
Town Creek on SR 1003 in Edgecombe County. WBS 17BP.4.R.21
Dear Sirs:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) proposes to remove and
replace Bridge #40, a 2 span bridge, over UT to Town Creek on SR 1003 in Edgecombe
County. The existing bridge will be replaced with 120 "X50' aluminum pipe with
headwalls. This activity proposes to permanently impact a total of 51 linear feet of
stream channel. Also 30 additional ft of stream and buffer will be permanently impacted
due to channel improvements and bank stabilization. NCDOT anticipates that this pipe
replacement activity will be authorized under Nationwide Permit 14 and NCDWQ GC #
3886.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact Chad
Coggins, Division Environmental Officer at (252) 296 -3532. Your time and effort are
appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,

remove the existing two span bridge and replace it with a single line of 120" aluminum pipe 50' in length with headwalls.
Based on hydraulic calculations and observations made on -site after heavy rain events, NCDOT believes that this site will
be adequately served by this configuration. Most of the work will be performed with an excavator. Clean earthen fill will
be used to backfill over pipe and behind the headwalls.
