The clearing- contractor was removing a stump in high ground and apparently when he pulled it out, 16 feet of line was exposed. The Town of Shallotte arrived on site at approximately 3:16 pm. They contained as much as they could, and dug a pit in high ground for containment, but some sewage made its way to the creek. A pump truck on site removed some of the sewage that was lost. Someone from the Town of Shallotte confirmed they will be reporting this to DEQ. The assistant resident engineer said that he understands that the town will report the amount of sewage as a 1 ½ inch line that was open for 25 minutes – but this is the total loss, and doesn’t represent what made it to the creek. Location: Brunswick Bridge 202 on SR 1357 (N. Mulberry Rd) Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need additional information or if there is anyone else I need to follow-up or report to.
