C. MULCHING SEEDED AREAS
1. MULCH SHALL BE APPLIED TO ALL SEEDED AREAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER SEEDING.
2. IF GRADING IS COMPLETED OUTSIDE OF THE SEEDING SEASON, MULCH ALONE SHALL BE
APPLIED AS PRESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION AND MAINTAINED UNTIL THE SEEDING SEASON
RETURNS AND SEEDING CAN BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE SPECIFICATIONS.
3. WHEN STRAW MULCH IS USED, IT SHALL BE SPREAD OVER ALL SEEDED AREAS AT THE RATE
OF 2 TONS /ACRE. MULCH SHALL BE APPLIED TO A UNIFORM LOOSE DEPTH OF BETWEEN 1"
AND 2 ". MULCH APPLIED SHALL ACHIEVE A UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION AND DEPTH SO THAT
THE SOIL SURFACE IS NOT EXPOSED. IF A MULCH ANCHORING TOOL IS TO BE USED, THE
RATE SHOULD BE INCREASED TO 2.5 TONS /ACRE.
4. WOOD CELLULOSE FIBER USED AS A MULCH SHALL BE APPLIED AT A NET DRY WEIGHT OF
1,500 LBS. PER ACRE. THE WOOD CELLULOSE FIBER SHALL BE MIXED WITH WATER, AND
THE MIXTURE SHALL CONTAIN A MAXIMUM OF 50 LBS. OF WOOD CELLULOSE FIBER PER 100
GALLONS OF WATER.

RECONSTRUCTED BANKS ON THE OUTSIDE OF GRADED /RECONSTRUCTED MEANDER BENDS WILL
BE STABILIZED WITH TOE WOOD INSTALLED ALONG THE TOE (STREAM BOTTOM TO
WATERSURFACE) OF THE RECONSTRUCTED BANK. THE PREFERRED METHOD FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF THE MIDDLE PORTION OF THE NEW BANKS (WATERSURFACE TO BANKFULL) WOULD BE THE
INSTALLATION OF TRANSPLANTED SHRUBS HARVESTED FROM THE ADJACENT FLOODPLAIN.
TRANSPLANTS WOULD PROVIDE VIABLE NATIVE PLANT MATERIAL, ALONG WITH THEIR ASSOCIATED
ROOT MASS AS WELL AS THE SOIL IN WHICH THE SHRUBS WERE GROWING. THE TRANSPLANTS
ALSO PROVIDE THE ADDED BENEFIT OF SUFFICIENT WEIGHT TO HELP HOLD THE TOE WOOD IN
PLACE UNTIL THE PLANTS ARE WELL ESTABLISHED. UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE NO NATIVE
SHRUBS ON -SITE SUITABLE FOR TRANSPLANTING.
AS AN ALTERNATIVE SOIL LIFTS WILL BE INSTALLED ABOVE THE STRUCTURES ALONG THE MIDDLE
PORTION OF THE BANK (WATERSURFACE TO BANKFULL). LIVE BRANCH CUTTINGS WILL BE
INSTALLED BETWEEN THE LIFTS. LIVE CUTTINGS SHALL BE SPACED 0.5 FEET APART. LIVE
BRANCH CUTTINGS SHALL BE % TO 11h INCHES IN DIAMETER. THE CUTTINGS SHOULD BE LONG
ENOUGH FOR THE ROOTS TO BE IN CONTACT WITH THE SOIL AT THE BACK OF THE FABRIC
OVERLAP AND THE GROWING TIPS TO EXTEND A MINIMUM OF 18 INCHES BEYOND THE FRONT
OF THE NEXT LIFT UP.
