Site Review
Tyson Foods, Inc.
Permit Number WQ0000701
Moore and Montgomery Counties
On Thursday, May.17, 2001, .the field site review for the Tyson Foods, Inc., residuals
Permit WQ0000701, were performed by the Fayetteville Regional Office. The findings of this
office are summarized in the attached as provided by the Groundwater Section. There were
three (3) sites in Moore County which need to be deleted since they are located within the %2
critical area of a WSIV water supply stream. The recommendations for the land use are included.
in the attached summary.
Also during our review. it was observed that this area was very densely populated with
poultry farms. This was not discussed in the application. Due to the many uncertainties of
poultry manure management in this or other areas, it is recommended that the following special
condition be included:
"Prior to land application of residuals to any land that previously or will receive
animal waste, the Farmer shall provide the Permittee with information pertaining
to the volume applied and a waste analysis. This information shall be submitted
so that verification can be made as to the amount of residuals that is able to be
applied at the appropriate agronomic rate. If the maximum agronomic nutrients
amount has been applied'to the field, no additional residuals shall be applied to
the field".
Overall, the sites observed were suitable for land application of residuals and all locations
are isolated which is a plus for applying these residuals.
If you have any questions, please advise.

"'Mr. Williamson owns a large poultry operation. Some of the fields had been used for lit er appllcation.
Many of the soils were eroded and clay exposed at the surface, but residuals will be injec ed which should Increase Intl tratlon and negate runoff hazard.
All Fields in Richmond Co. were very clayey; therefore, a more sha low wt depth was deemed suitable for appllcation. Cutoff for YR was 18.20- SHWT.
Peawich(Pe) soil series do not sustain corn and soybean yields as well as other series. (Pe) predominates in many fields and the appllcation rates should be adjusted.
