The approximate. area of the beach is approximately one -half acre and the swimming area,m the water will be app_ roximately 1/ to 3/4 acre. The length of lake shoreline ^at the edge of the beach is approximately 325 linear feet. Existing vegetation within the vicinity of the proposed work consists, of mostly maintained turfgrass and a few shoreline shrubs. There is only one medium sized tree within the project area that has been planted as apart of the landscape This tree will probably need to be removed as the area is graded. Thesshoreline at the Ordinary High Water Mark (OHWM) is presently eroding in most areas. The eroded escarpment is from 12 -24" height along its length and is near vertical or undercut in the most severe areas The proposed beach and swimming area have been developed as a park for many years and contains no known unique cultural or environmental features. The,shoreline and area within the lake do not have any unique aquatic habitat features that provide cover or food sources The proposed beach and swimming area occurs on a point of land so the water depths into the lake are generally very shallow Duke Energy Shoreline Management Guidelines (SMG) mapped classification for this area is for Future Public Recreation use Minimal grading and almost no clearing will be needed to construct the beach and swimming area. Finished 1and,elevations and lake bottom contours will be approximately the same as existing, gmde after construction It-is anticipated that existing roads and parking will be used and thefe is not a proposal for any new road or parking construction at this time All appropriate permits will be obtained from Federal, State, and Local agencies prior to onset of any construction activities Could you please provide a written response of your comments regarding this project so they can be included an application to Duke Energy.
