Subject: Request for a NW 14 permit lot- the replacement of Bridge #255 over Broad Creek Canal on "Cerra
Ceia Road (SR 161.2) in Beaufort County with a culvert. WB,S # 17BP.2.R.,47
The North Carolina Department of, 'r l"ransportation is replacing bridge 4255 in Beaufort County with a
culvert. The current bridge is located on Terra Ceia Road (SR 1612) over Broad Creek Canal. Broad Creek
1
Canal is in the Tar-Pamhco Basin, but NCDWR does not claim jurisdiction; therefore the buffer rules do
not apply, Broad Creek Canal is classified by NCDWR as class C; Sw; NSW waters. Bridge 4255 is
currently a 5-span steel plank floor bridge oil steel 1-beams, 120 ft long'. This structure will be rernoved
I
using NCDOT's guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed culvert will be placed on the existing bridge
I
alignment. The proposed structure will be a 3-cell 9'x 13' reinforced concrete box Culvert with 25' skew,
Culvert cells will be buried I -foot. There are no jurisdictional wetlands located on site. USACE does
claim jurisdiction of Broad Creek Canal and a Nationwide Permit will be required for the bridge to culvert
modification and related impacts. The placement of the proposed culvert and riprap associated with the
downstream channel improvement will result in 210 linear feet of permanent strearn impacts. Temporary
impervious dikes and a diversion channel will be installed during construction to dewater the site.
Included with this letter are the location map, permit drawings, and Low Impact Data Sheet. if you
