The Site is located on an 87 -acre parcel owned by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Briles It is located southeast of the intersection of Ross Wood Road and Pleasant Grove Road in Trinity,, Randolph County, North Carolina. The primary land uses on the property include rangeland (pasture), a chicken egg farm, and forest. Prior, totconsffLi tioA; Siie,- streams were impaired due to poor grazing management practices and anthropogenic di §tdrbances.; Bank_erosioni'and stream bed degradation were widespread throughout the site. The project was is - -. _— iri ii!Wd by the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 2003. In that same year, a feasibility study completed and "the site was subsequently transferred to the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program (NCEEP), andt.therestotation plan was produced. Site construction was completed in November 2007 and lantiri tobk_"'lacein Janiiar 2008. Due ,to low stem densities along restored channel banks, a supplemental Y g PP planting occurred December 30, 2011. Two invasive species, treatments have occurred on site in 2013 and an 'additional treatment is scheduled for May or June 2014. Goals and Objectives Project Goals • Restore stable channel morphology capable of moving flows and sediment provided by its watershed • Restore riparian habitat and functions- • Improve water quality and reduce land and.riparian vegetation loss-resulting from lateral erosion and bed degradation. • Improve aquatic habitat with bed variability and use-of in-stream structures • Preserve portions of the drainage that currently °function as a stable riverine environment Project Objectives • Build appropriate C4 and 134c channels, wrth stable channel dimensions • Plant a functional Bottomland Hardwood Forest community to create an effective riparian buffer. • Exclude livestock from riparian areas - Success Criteria Performance Standard _ Result Vegetation: Based on the number of planted stems counted; average Vegetation success criteria dictate that;an.ayerage, densities were measured, at 374 planted stems per ,acre density of 320 stems per acre must be surviving in the (excluding lrvestakes) surviving in year 5 (2013). first three monitoring years. No significant bank erosion was'recorded, and the geomorphic measurements are within the range of design parameters. One bankfull event was documented during the year 5 (2013) monitoring period. Two bankfull events were previously documented during the 2010 and 2011 monitoring seasons for a total of 3 bankfull events over the five -year monitoring period. Overall, the Site met or exceeded vegetation success criteria, with an average of 374 planted stems - per -acre (excluding live - stakes). Six of the, eight plots met'or exceeded the success criteria of 260 planted stems - per -acre (minimum stem count after 5, years). Vegetation Plots 2 and 7 were each, below success criteria. 'When including livestakes, yegetation plot 2 also exceeded success criteria. The project is stable and functioning as intended, EEP recommends closing the site to generate 2,266 SWs. Contingencies No contingencies are proposed for this site -Page 14 of 11 + •x'41 , .4 I PDT R4tj s Y M Y r = i f g` s Ak '• .lei" `.`,: Y tv Ar ie . F _ ` e ' " 4L.
