In accordance with Part VII, Section B of the "Special Conditions" section of expired NPDES Permit No. NC0083887, Charlotte -
Douglas International Airport (CLT) is providing information summarizing the amount of glycol and urea dispensed on the
property during the winter season spanning from October 2021 through April 2022. Per the permit referenced above, Outfall
001 Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for May 2022 is additionally included.
The total amount of glycol used was reported to be 50,777 gallons prior to dilution. Of this amount, 45,707 gallons were
sprayed by our service provider, International Deicing Services, Inc. (IDS). Their services are administered on behalf of CLT to all
regularly scheduled carriers providing flights from CLT, as well as UPS Cargo. For General Aviation, which includes private and
corporate flights handled by Wilson Air Center, the amount of glycol used totals 934 gallons prior to dilution. FEDEX
Corporation reported a use of 4,176 gallons of fluids on their two aircraft operating in and out of CLT.
10,699 lbs. of urea were dispensed at CLT during the 2021-2022 winter season. This quantity represents the last of CLT's
residual stock and the Airport does not anticipate extensive use of urea for deicing or anti -icing activities in the future. In an
effort to minimize our environmental impact, the Airport now uses sodium formate as our primary solid deicer.
The quantities presented for the 2021-2022 winter season represent an increase when compared with what was reported to
your agency for the 2020-2021 winter season. These additional amounts are attributed to a significant increase in the number
of flights after COVID 19 restriction were lifted and several consecutive snow events during the month of January.
