Blythe Jordan is working on R-5798 (US 74 / Boardman Road Interchange) and upon inspection of
Bridge 398, it was determined that there has been severe erosion around one of the bents and we
are currently below scour critical elevation. The structure has no pile length since the structure was
built using 30 ft – 20 inch concrete piles. When the bridge was constructed in the 1990’s, the area
under the bridge was excavated which basically created a water filled hole.
Structures Management has recommended filling the scour area with a clean fill material and then
capping with Class II rip-rap stone. Since the bridge is within the project limits of R-5798, Blythe can
complete the work under a Supplemental Agreement with the contractor to complete the work.
This will not increase impacts for the project.
