The contractor (English) for project B-5619 Bridges # 52 and #152 over the Neuse River Overflow on SR – 1389 Lenoir county has requested this. (Refer to April 18th, 2021 letter request attached). This letter describes the procedure and numbers of piles to be removed. There are a couple of sub-issues at play. One is the request to remove the piles via vibratory methods. The second is the question as to whether have a diver cutting off piles underwater would be considered “in- water work” and the subsequent question as to that operation’s availability during the moratorium. The contractor has been following all the general PDC’s for this project and will continue to follow the PDC’s during the pile removal activity including the use of turbidity curtains during piling removal and noise abatement procedures. Should you have any questions or need additional information please contact me. 3 Jay Johnson Division 2 Environmental Officer North Carolina Department of Transportation 252 439 2821 office 252 341 9802 mobile jbjohnson@ncdot.gov 1037 W H Smith Blvd Greenville, NC 27834 Email correspondence to and from this address is subject to the North Carolina Public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties.
