Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection
Town of Princeton Wastewater Collection System
Permit Number WQCS00237
Johnston County
Dear Mr. Rains:
On June 15, 2022, Stephanie Goss and Jim Westcott of the Division of Water Resources conducted
the subject inspection. The assistance of Chad Thompson during the inspection was appreciated.
Below is a list of findings developed from the inspection:
1. The permit became effective May 9, 2018 and will expire on April 30, 2026.
2. The Town of Princeton’s wastewater collection system has approximately 14.02 miles of
gravity sewer, 4.42 miles of force main, 32 simplex pump stations that discharge to a
pressure sewer and serve a single building, and 7 duplex pump stations.
3. A Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) program is implemented and in use. Educational materials
are mailed out twice a year per permit requirements.
4. The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) lists funds/projects which included a master plan
ending in 2029, goal statement, future needs, and cost analysis.
5. There have been no reportable SSO’s at the Town of Princeton’s collection system since
2010. Records for SSO’s are kept for over three years.
6. Per the subject permit, there are approximately 14.02 miles of gravity line. According to
ORC records, approximately 1.88 miles of gravity sewer lines were cleaned in 2021 which
is 13.4%.
7. Five pump stations were inspected: Azalea Street, West Edwards, Smith Street
Talton/Comco and South Pine Street. All five pump stations have identification signs,

secured access, appeared in good condition and were free of excess debris. All audible and
visual alarms functioned when the high-water floats were activated except for Smith Street.
The visual alarm did not function when activated. Mr. Thompson stated he would replace
the bulb as spare bulbs were available. A logbook for each pump station was available to
view during the inspection. All pump stations have a generator on-site and operated
successfully except for Azalea Street which has a portable generator if needed.
8. Maintenance logs were reviewed and appeared satisfactory.
9. There is one high priority line located at 104 Donnie H. Jones Jr. Blvd East and is inspected
daily. It appeared straight, rust free and in good condition.
10. An up-to-date map of the collection system was available which included direction of flow,
pipe size, pipe material, pipe location, pump station identification and location.
If you have any questions concerning this report, please contact Stephanie Goss at 919-791-4256
