Site Inspection (DOT)Routine
Site inspection was conducted on June 13, 2022 by Kevin Mitchell with the Asheville Regional Office. Nick Adams was
present during the inspection. Brandon Dockery and Adam Cross were also present for a portion of the inspection. The
following are items that need attention:
- Station L 78+50 LT (Site 3) - Unpermitted fill on stream banks. Approximately 12 feet of rip rap. DWR needs to be
notified of any changes to a permitted site.
- Station 131+50 RT (Site 9) - Coir log needs to be removed from stream.
- Station L 147+00 RT (Site 11) - Remove sediment from JS at inlet (approximately one 5 gallon bucket). Follow up
photos were received on 6/14/22. Complete
- Station L 158+50 LT (Site 12) - Energy dissipator does not appear to be backing water into culvert. May need larger
header rock with filter fabric and back fill. Cross vane structures need repair. One is piping and some of the structures
are failing. Ensure proper size rock is used for repair. Boulder dimensions for vanes are in vane detail. The channel
also appears to have downcut slightly. Need to monitor for stability. Please consult with Patrick Breedlove.
- Station L 186+50 RT (Site 15) - Sediment observed in JS. Source appears to be coming from a sinkhole at Mountain
Valley Country Store. DOT has agreed to remove sediment within right of way. I have contacted the owner of the
store to prevent additional loss. Follow up photos were received on 6/14/22.
- Station L 186+50 LT - SDOs need maintenance.
