Dear Mr. Weaver:
SKF USA Inc. (SKF USA) is providing this letter to rescind NPDES permit
NC0004260 associated with a groundwater remediation pump and treat system at the
former CR Industries Facility located at 4328 South York Highway (Hwy 321) in
Gastonia, Gaston County, NC. The groundwater remediation system was shut down
and has not been used since 2008. There has been no NPDES discharge since that
time and there are no plans to use the groundwater remediation system in the future.
In emails dated March 29, 2022, and April 8, 2022,Ms. Cathy Jacobs with NCDEQ's
Inactive Hazardous Sites Branch(IHSB)approved rescinding the NPDES permit.Ms.
Jacobs also requested that all monitoring wells and recovery wells associated with the
system be left intact. The remediation system components are still in place. At a
minimum SKF USA's consultant, Hart & Hickman, PC (H&H), will contract with a
licensed electrician to ensure that power has been properly disconnected from the
system control panel. The remediation system effluent piping will be cut off and
capped such that the piping cannot be used for future discharge.
