This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NCG550195. A summary of the findings and comments noted during the inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report. The Compliance Evaluation inspection was conducted by Division of Water Resources staff from the Asheville Regional Office. This inspection was conducted to determine if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General NPDES Permit No. NCG550000. This is a second home occupied by a single resident during the summer months. The septic tank could not be located during the inspection but is assumed to be located to the back right of the home as the sand filter appears to run adjacent to the back of the home. The chlorine contact chamber contained chlorine tablets and was found at the back left of the home just prior to the cascading discharge pipe which borders the stream at the back of the property. Ms. Charlotte Marshall (owner) has no recollection of having the septic tank checked or pumped within the last 5 years. Asheville Regional Office (ARO) records indicate that the tank was pumped by Triple T Pumping in the summer of 2016. The tank should either be pumped or checked to verify that pumping is not necessary at least once every five years. The discharge pipe was discharging at the time of the inspection; however, the home was unoccupied at the time and the inspection took place during a rain event. Per the permit requirements, the discharge pipe should be checked twice per year. The pipe should be monitored for discharge during the next period in which the home is occupied. The following deficiencies were noted during the inspection: 1.Septic Tank: The septic tank has not been checked or pumped in the last 5 years. 2.Effluent Sampling: The effluent has not been sampled.
