Catawba County Schools received the Notice of Violation on May 10th, 2022.
There were five violations noted within the compliance evaluation inspection. They
were:
- The filter bed sand was bound with solids and clay/dirt;
-Several lateral distribution sections were warped;
-The back perimeter block wall for the sand beds needed repair and height
extended
-The excessive amount of leaves, grass, etc. had not been removed out of the
chlorine contact chamber
- The flow meter was not operating and located properly.
Below are Catawba County Schools responses to the violations:
-We will work this summer to remove any solids, clay, or dirt that is bound within
the filter bed sand. We will plan to add back the proper sand as it is removed
and to make sure we maintain 18-24 inches of sand in the bed.
- Catawba County Schools will repair any lateral distribution sections that may be
warped

-We plan to hire a third party contractor to repair the block wall and raise the
height this summer
-Any leaves or grass will be removed from the chlorine contact chamber this
summer. Also, we have instructed our landscaper to cover the chamber when
working
-Our waste water operator will relocate the flow meter to a level position so it will
operate properly
We take all violations serious and these errors are in the process of being
corrected. We apologize for these mistakes and we will continue to monitor our waste
water treatment plants in accordance with all government regulations.
