Paul,
The additional fill does not bump the total permanent wetland impacts above 0.10 acres. The
impacted wetland area would rate medium or low on NCWAM at the highest. The Corps will
not require compensatory mitigation for this project. Let me know if you have any questions.
Kyle

Kyle and Garcy,
What do you think about mitigation for the additional impacts?
Thanks,

Subject: Perquimans Bridge 29 - Additional Fill in Wetlands
Kyle and Garcy,
As we discussed last week, there was a small pocket of wetlands (approx. 444 sq.ft.) that was initially authorized for
hand clearing that was inadvertently filled by the bridge replacement project. After discussions with the Resident’s
Office, the Division would prefer to leave this fill in place as it would be problematic to successfully restore this pocket to
a functional wetland. Unfortunately, this would increase the permanent wetland impacts to over 0.1 acre and require
mitigation. If you are agreeable to this revision, I’ll request the mitigation from DMS this week. If not, please let me
know what course of action you will require.
Greg,
If the Corps and NCDWR accept mitigation for this project, will DCM agree? Since we have a Major Permit on this
project, could I request authorization through a letter of refinement?
Thanks,
Paul C. Williams, Jr.
