Section D: Summary of Findings/Comments:
1. According to the DMR reports reviewed for the period August 1994, through July 1995,
the plant's effluent was in compliance with the NPDES permit's limits except for
exceedences for BOD and suspended solids in . the early part of the year. "NOV's" were'
issued.
2. Hydrologic laboratory now performs the required permit analytical work. The facility
laboratory is now in the process of being certified.
3. Carbon dioxide is now being injected in the treatment process to counter, high pH waste
steam liquor. Carbon dioxide gas reacts with water to form carbonic acid which neutralizes
the high pH.
4. An Imhoff cone determination of the plant's effluent revealed a trace/ltr concentration of
settleable solids with low levels of suspended solids in the supernatant. There were dissolved
dye wastes in the supernatant.
5. DMR and laboratory data agreed (spot check- month of April -1995).
6. The present discharge pipe will be replacedwith a larger 24 inch pipe.
7. Mr. Eric Bolin has replaced Mr. Ron Hilberlink as Environmental Affairs Manager.
