Re: Notice of Violation
Sanitary Sewer Overflows — March 2022
Hawthorne Collection System, Wake County
Permit No. WQCS00380
NOV-2022-DV-0105
Dear Mr. Vinson:
Aqua North Carolina, Inc. (Aqua) offers the following response to the above -referenced Notice of
Violation, which was issued for pipe failure (break) at the corner of Warwickshire and North Hawthorne
Way found in March 2022 Sanitary Sewer Overflows Report.
Aqua's Response:
On March 2, 2022, the Hawthorne Lift Station had a sanitary sewer overflow. The estimated
amount was 3,000 gallons and none of the overflow made it to surface waters of the state. It was
discovered that the 6-inch discharge line for this station failed. The failed piping was removed and
new 6-inch C-900 piping along with a new shut off valve were installed. After installation, the pipe
was tested and checked for leaks. A vacuum truck was used to capture the loss and the area was
limed for disinfection.
