Purpose and Need of Proposed Project

The purpose of the proposed project is to alleviate congestion and improve the level of
service along US 17, and in doing so, improve safety of the route.

Least Environmentally Damaging Practicable Alternative

The merger team concurred on east or west side widening for the following sections:

Section 1 West
Section 5 Best Fit
Section 2 West
Section 6 Best Fit
Section 3 East
Section 7 West
Section 4 West with Shift to Avoid
Section 8 East
Section 9 Best Fit
(National Register
Eligible)

The Project Team concurred with the least environmentally damaging practicable alternative
(LEDPA) for the project as indicated above.
