Intersection Improvements at SR 1006 (Old Stage Road) at SR 1010 (Ten Ten
Road) in Wake County; WBS Number 49367.1.1
The following is a Start of Study notification for Project Number HL-0008F
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has begun the project development and
environmental and engineering studies for HL-0008F. The project consists of intersection improvements at
SR 1006 (Old Stage Road) at SR 1010 (Ten Ten Road) in Wake County. Two alternatives are being
considered as outlined below:
Alternative 1: Addition of a northbound right turn lane on SR 1006 with 100' of storage, an eastbound
right turn lane on SR 1010 with 100' of storage and a sidewalk in the southwest quadrant of the intersection
in front of Vance Elementary School.
Alternative 2: Addition of a northbound auxiliary lane on SR 1006 from NC 540 to 1000' north of SR
1010, a southbound auxiliary lane on SR 1006 from 1000' north of SR 1010 to NC 540, an eastbound right
turn lane on SR 1010 with 100' of storage and a sidewalk in the southwest quadrant of the intersection in
front of Vance Elementary School.
This project is included in the current NCDOT STIP and is scheduled for construction let in FY 2024. The
attached figure shows the vicinity map for the proposed project. NCDOT is preparing Categorical
Exclusion (CE) environmental documentation.
In lieu of holding an in -person scoping meeting, NCDOT is providing the attached project information and
maps. We welcome your input on the proposed HL-000817, and we would appreciate any information that
may be helpful in evaluating the potential environmental effects. If applicable, please identify any permits
or approvals that may be required by your organization. Please provide your input by June 15, 2022.
