ALL WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF NCDOT 2018 SPECIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL PROVISIONS, AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROVED PLANS BY THE ENGINEER. THE NEW 48" PIPES WILL BE SET AT A DEPTH BELOW THE ROAD TO ELIMINATE ANY PONDING WITH THE CURRENT POND AREA. EXISTING CONDITIONS THERE IS AN EXISTING RISER STRUCTURE AND CONTROL VALVE WITHIN THE POND IMPOUNDMENT AREA AND AN EXISTING PIPE FROM THE RISER STRUCTURE UNDER SPRINGSIDE DRIVE TO A DISCHARGE POINT EAST OF THE SPRINGSIDE DRIVE IN THE CREEK. THE DISCHARGE PIPE, RISER AND CONTROL VALVE ARE NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL. THERE ARE FOUR EXISTING CMP PIPES UNDER SPRINGSIDE DRIVE THAT CONVEY HIGHER RUNOFF FLOWS THAT EXCEED THE CAPACITY OF THE RISER. ASPHALT PAVING, GROUTED RIP RAP, AND BROKEN CONCRETE ARE LOCATED ALONG THE EXISTING ROADWAY FOR REDUCING EROSION FROM EXCESS RUNOFF THAT OVERTOPS THE EXISTING ROAD. AN EXISTING SANITARY SEWER IS LOCATED WITHIN THE RIGHT OF WAY AND IS APPROXIMATELY 6.5 FEET DEEP FROM THE ASPHALT SURFACE. THIS PROJECT IS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THE EXISTING SEWER LINE THROUGH ALL PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION. SUGGESTED PROJECT SEQUENCE 1) PRIOR TO DRAINING THE POND, INSTALL COFFERDAM ON POND SIDE OF SPRINGSIDE DRIVE TO MAINTAIN POND LEVELS. EXCAVATE AREA WITHIN THE COFFERDAM FOR RECEIVING THE 48" STEEL PIPES AND TO PROVIDE ROOM FOR INSTALLATION OF THE PRECAST CONCRETE RISERS. INSTALL JACK AND BORE TRENCHES. JACK AND BORE TWIN 48" STEEL PIPES UNDER THE EXISTING SANITARY SEWER TO THE REQUIRED LENGTH AT THE END OF THE RUN. CONFIRM BY SURVEY THE STATION, ELEVATION, LENGTH, AND SLOPES OF THE TWIN 48" PIPES. 2) INSTALL JUNCTION BOXES, 48" RCP PIPES, TWIN 48" ENDWALL, OUTLET CHANNEL, AND RIP RAP APRON DOWNSTREAM OF THE STEEL PIPES TO COMPLETE THE STORM SEWER CONVEYANCE SYSTEM FROM SPRINGSIDE DRIVE TO THE EXISTING RECEIVING CREEK. 3) PREPARE SUBGRADE AND INSTALL RISER STRUCTURES AT EACH END OF THE 48" STEEL PIPES. 4) BEGIN DRAINING THE POND AT A MAXIMUM RATE OF 6" PER DAY BY PUMPING, SIPHONS, OR REMOVING PORTIONS OF THE COFFERDAM IN 6" INCREMENTS UNTIL FLOW HAS STABILIZED AT EACH INCREMENT. ONCE POND IS DRAINED, GRADE IN LOW FLOW CHANNEL TO THE DIMENSIONS AND SLOPES SHOWN ON THE GRADING PLAN. CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR HAULING ALL EARTHWORK MATERIAL FROM THE PROJECT. 5) REMOVE PORTIONS OF THE CONTROL VALVE, RISER STRUCTURE AND GROUT THE RISER STRUCTURE PER THE NOTES.
