SUBJECT: Start of Study Memo for Bridge Replacement Project BPI LR006.1 -Bridge 157 on
Big Peak Creek Road over Peak Creek in Ashe County, North Carolina
To Whom it May Concern,
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Division 11 is beginning the project
development, environmental, and engineering studies for project BP LR006.1. NCDOT proposes to
replace Bridge No. 157 on Big Peak Creek Road over Peak Creek in Ashe County. Figure 1 shows
the vicinity map for the proposed project. NCDOT is preparing a Minimum Criteria Determination
Checklist (MCDC). NCDOT has made the preliminary determination that the project will not proceed
through the merger process.
In lieu of holding an in -person scoping meeting, NCDOT is providing the attached project
information and maps. We welcome your input on proposed project BPI I.RO06.1, and we would
appreciate any information that may be helpful in evaluating the potential environmental effects. If
applicable, please identity any permits or approvals that may be required by your organization. Please
provide your input by May 20, 2022.
