In the last two years since the engineering report both structures have gotten exponentially worse and are at the brink of complete collapse. I would like to make sure this does not happen again in the future by using a segmented wall block for the retaining wall. I would like to go to river rock for the sea wall because of the nearby storm water drain. With storms constantly releasing high flowing water directly into the seawall constant erosion is bound to create failure again regardless of the structural integrity of a new seawall. H. Structural Engineer REPORT January 20, 2020 Client: Mike Esch Re: Wood Framed Retaining Wall 21630 Rio Oro Drive Cornelius, NC 28031 1 of 1 Mr. Esch, As requested, we have completed our observation of the property and we have prepared the following recommendations in response to your concerns about the wood framed retaining wall. The report that follows is a summary of our observations and findings. Unless otherwise stated, all directions are from an observer facing the front of the house. Observations: 1. The wood framed retaining wall consists of 8x8 posts at 5-feet on center, infilled with 2x8's. The maximum wall height is 6'-8". 2. Moisture damage was observed at the base of the posts and along the bottom 2x8. 3. The wall has rotated outwards up to 6-inches. Findings: • The wood framed retaining wall was not designed or constructed in accordance with the North Carolina Residential Code. The retaining wall, as built, cannot support the applied lateral loads, as evidenced by the rotation observed. Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance.
