Our review has resulted in questions regarding the Morphological Characteristics table
(Table 13) included within the plan. The table describes the existing valley slope as
4.4%, while the design valley slope is shown as 2.0%.
It has been our experience that valley slope is a landscape-scale measurement, much like
valley length and bankfull discharge, and should not change between the existing and
design data, unless extreme modification to the topography around the stream feature is
planned.
Please review the design data and address this issue.
For both Reach 2 and Reach 5
The planting plan for this project include red maple (Ater rubrum). This is a common
tree and a prolific volunteer species on disturbed sites. DWQ recommends not including
red maple in the planting plan, as this species will establish itself naturally on the site.
