It is shown in photos 2 and 3 and the project inspector had asked if it could be filled since it was outside of the area where the riprap end bent protection will be extended. I asked the resident’s office to determine where this area is on the plan sheet. Please see attached the permit drawing sheet which shows the general location marked by a dot. Nathan also circled the area on an older picture I had sent him (from a previous ride through) when the old bridge was still existing. He said that the thinks the area is just outside (waterward) of the existing (previous) toe of fill. For reference, he thinks that the concrete that is circled in the attached image is the same piece of concrete that is shown in Photos 2 and 3. He said that the dimensions of the area are approximately 9ft X 7ft. Can this area be filled as a field adjustment with additional open water impacts? It will be filled to blend into the existing elevations and to blend into the existing edge of the bank and then covered in coir fiber matting. Please let me know if there are any questions or if I can provide anything further. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything else that should be added or discussed. Thank you. Sampson Bridge 9 Agency Review Attendees: James Hinson, Anneliese Westphal, Sophia Gingrich, Hannah Sprinkle -We reviewed the eastern side of the detour area where the contractor will be removing fill associated with the detour (Photo 1). Near the creek in this area additional riprap will be placed to tie into existing end bent protection riprap. This area has existing 57 stone that the contactor will remove (Photo 2). There is a rectangle-shaped area of water in this area which may fall just outside of the additional rock area (See photos 2 and 3). It was existing but not depicted in the JS line because it appears to have been behind the concrete apron. James had asked if it can be filled to the same elevation as the existing slope. Are the agencies OK if the area is filled? It would create a more consistent bank (note the shape of the turbidity curtain in this area) and it may prevent further scour in this area. -We discussed what is called out for vegetating the areas of temporary impacts after the fill is removed. There is a statement in the Corps permit that the temporary detour’s affected areas shall be re-vegetated with native, non-invasive vegetation as necessary to minimize erosion and ensure site stability. After a discussion with Mason, and coordination with Brad, we confirmed that there is no reforestation plan for the temporary impacts. Therefore, the contractor will need to seed with the native seed in the temporary impact area where there is not standing water. -We reviewed the removal of the western site of the temporary detour (photos 4 and 5). They have not yet removed the excess fabric in photo 4. -We still saw some areas of dirty riprap, mainly at the edges of the end bent protection. The contractor is aware of this as it was mentioned on previous visits and know that it must be cleaned or replaced.
