Brett-
Please have a look at this information. Essentially, UST is punting this iron issue to us. We should review/evaluate to
determine if: 1) iron in groundwater is naturally occurring (if we can based on this data) and (2) if the iron is a result of
the petroleum in the GW or some remedial action if any the RP took. Thanks, we can discuss at some point today
maybe.

Landon,
During a recent conversation with Attorney Peter McGrath, I realized that you need to address the iron issue. I am still
working on getting them a NFA on the oil part, I am waiting to get a complete copy of S&ME’s report. They would like to
get both issues cleared up. I will be on leave Friday and Monday. We can talk about this on Tuesday, I wanted to make
sure I got the report info to you.
Thanks,
Jan

Jan,
Attorney Peter McGrath sent a report and some correspondence to the MRO for the subject site and he is looking for
some kind of NFA or completion response. The main issue is a fuel oil spill and oil release from two small transformers.
They did some excavation and sampling and it doesn’t appear there are long term issues with the petroleum releases. I
spoke to Mr. McGrath today and he was unaware that the UST Section is now handling all petroleum releases. I told
him he would really need your Section’s blessing regarding any NFA’s for the petroleum end of the site rather than
IHSB’s.
The other issue that turned up at the site are high iron concentration in samples from three monitoring wells. Their
consultant claims that the detections are similar to background levels, but don’t provide any data to substantiate their
claim. When Mr. McGrath and I spoke, we discussed the possibility of their collecting background samples to confirm
the levels in the monitoring wells are actually similar to background concentrations.
I’m attaching a scan of the materials that were mailed here in case you want to look over them for any response from
the UST Section.
Thank you and please call me if you have any other questions. I’m giving the report to George Adams on my staff in case
the responsible party sends in some supporting documentation regarding the detected iron concentrations being
background.
Sincerest Regards,
Bruce
