RE: Groundwater Analytical Results – March 2019
Blue Ridge Tissue Corporation
1427 Yadkin River Road
Patterson, North Carolina
Mr. Laverty:
On March 19, 2019, Singleton Environmental, Inc. (SEI) visited the Blue Ridge Tissue site located
at 1427 Yadkin River Road in Patterson, North Carolina, to collect groundwater samples from
monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-6, MW-7 and MW-8. The depth to
groundwater in the monitoring wells ranged from 4.55 feet in MW-4 to 47.80 feet in MW-2.
Refer to Table 1 for all monitoring well groundwater depths and Figure 1 for all monitoring well
locations.
All groundwater samples, with the exception of MW-2, were collected using a peristaltic pump
connected to a Horiba U53-2 water quality meter with a flow through cell to collect groundwater
parameters (temperature, pH, specific conductivity, dissolved oxygen, ORP, and turbidity).
Groundwater sample MW-2 was collected using a bailer once three well volumes were removed.
Groundwater from the same bail as the sample was also poured into the flow cell to collect the
approximate parameters. The groundwater samples were submitted on ice to Pace Analytical for
the analysis of barium, iron and manganese using EPA Method 200.7. MW-2 was also analyzed
for total dissolved solids (TDS) using EPA Method SM 2540C. The groundwater parameters for
all samples are outlined in Table 2.
The laboratory analysis of groundwater samples MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 detected levels
of iron and manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Laboratory analysis of
groundwater sample MW-2 also detected levels of barium above the NCAC 2L groundwater
standards. Laboratory analysis of groundwater samples MW-6, MW-7, and MW-8 did not detect
any compounds exceeding the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The analytical results are shown
on attached Table 2 and the attached laboratory data sheets.
During the April 2017 groundwater sampling event, AECOM reported a possible sheen on the
groundwater in monitoring well MW-4. During the March 2019 event a sheen was not observed,
therefore, a volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis was not performed on the sample.
Singleton Environmental, Inc.
Singleton Environmental, Inc.
The compound levels detected in the groundwater analysis for the March 2019 sampling event
were comparable to the September 2018 event, however, iron was not detected above the NCAC
2L groundwater standards in MW-7. Singleton Environmental, Inc. recommends sampling the
monitoring wells again in September 2019.
If you have any questions you can reach me at (828) 667-5001.
Sincerely,
Chris Singleton, P.G.

QUALIFIERS
Pace Project No.:
Project:
92421858
Blue Ridge Tissue 3/19
DEFINITIONS
DF - Dilution Factor, if reported, represents the factor applied to the reported data due to dilution of the sample aliquot.
ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit.
TNTC - Too Numerous To Count
J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit.
MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit.
PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit.
RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and
bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix.
S - Surrogate
1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is
a combined concentration.
Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values.
LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate)
MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate)
DUP - Sample Duplicate
RPD - Relative Percent Difference
NC - Not Calculable.
SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up
U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected.
Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether.
A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA
Method 8260.
N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for
each analyte is a combined concentration.
Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes.
TNI - The NELAC Institute.
