Shield Project No. 1140099-09
Dear Mr. Pennington:
Shield Engineering, Inc. (Shield) successfully collected the 3rd Quarter 2021 stormwater samples
for Stormwater Discharge Outfall (SDO) #001 at the Daimler Trucks Gastonia facility during the
month of July 2021. A cover letter dated August 10, 2021, a competed Stormwater Discharge
Monitoring Report (DMR), a Qualitative Monitoring Report and the analytical results were
emailed to you on August 13, 2021. The rain event on July 8th did not produce enough rain to
collect the stormwater samples for SDO #002 and SDO #003.
3rd Quarter_ revised
Shield continued to monitor daily weather conditions to collect stormwater samples at these
outfalls, for the 3rd quarter 2021 (July— September 2021). However, other than the July 81h rainfall
event, there were no other qualifying rainfall events for the 3rd quarter 2021 as defined by
General Permit No. NCG030000. As a result, no stormwater samples were collected far S D 0 #002
and SDO #003 at the Daimler Trucks — Gastonia Facility during this quarter. According to rainfall
data' collected for this time period, four rain events or group events occurred on July 2r'd, July
7th, july 181h and July 25", producing 0.19, 2.05, 1.78 and 0.79 inches of rain, respectively for the
month of July; four rain events or group events occurred on August 3rd, August 10, August 25th,
and August 311t, producing 0.30, 2.08, 0.29 and 0.56 inches of rain, respectively for the month of
August; four rain events or group events occurred on September 1st, September 81h, September
16", and September 2011, producing 1.34, 0.14, 0.15 and 0.91 inches of rain, respectively for the
month of September. Each of the other events took place after normal business hours, within 72
hours of the rain event, or did not produce enough rainfall to collect a sample. The revised DMR
for the 3rd Quarter is attached to this cover letter.
4th Quarter
There were no qualifying rainfall events for the 41h quarter 2021 as defined by General Permit
No. NCG030000. As a result, no stormwater samples were collected for Stormwater Discharge
Outfalls (SDO) #001, SDO #002 and SDO 4003 at the Daimler Trucks — Gastonia Facility during

this quarter. According to rainfall data' collected for this time period, two rain events or group
events occurred on October 3,d, and October 25th, producing 0.49 and 0.69 inches of rain,
respectively for the month of October; four rain events or group events occurred on November
41h, November 111h, November 22n and November 261h, producing 0.13, 0.36, 0.21 and 0.02
inches of rain, respectively for the month of November; three rain events or group events
occurred on December 8th, December 1811, and December 290, producing 1.38, 0.71, and 0.15
inches of rain, respectively for the month of December. Shield attempted to collect samples
during the November 4th rain event, however there was not enough rain for the SDOs to flow.
Each of the other events took place after normal business hours, within 72 hours of the rain
event, or did not produce enough rainfall to collect a sample. The DMR for the 411 Quarter is
attached to this cover letter.
According to www.drought.gov, Gaston County is in D2 — Severe Drought category. The U.S.
❑rought Monitor (US DM) shows the location and intensity of draught across the country using a
five -category system, from Abnormally Dry (DO) to Exceptional Drought (D4). The USDM is a joint
effort of the National Drought Mitigation Center, USDA, and NOAA.
Shield will continue to monitor daily weather conditions and attempt coordination of appropriate
staff and resources to facilitate adequate sample collection. A partially completed Discharge
Monitoring Report form is attached to this cover letter for signature of the appropriate
authorized permittee and submittal to the State.
Daimler remains in Tier 1 for Copper at SDO #001 and Tier 1 for TSS at SDO #002. Shield greatly
appreciates the opportunity to provide environmental services to Daimler Trucks of North
America. if you have any questions in reference to this document or require further information,
