Chris,
I talked with Mike Lear at Wood about what their approach is going to be for access to the roadway portion of the
project. After looking at the drone footage provided and other information Wood does not plan to do any definable
hand clearing for access.
What I mean by that is they plan to drive over the brush and small saplings with the marsh/swamp buggy for as much of
the project as they can (see attached photo). This is the drill rig that has a platform they work from and don’t have to get
on the ground to do any clearing. If they reach an area that the marsh buggy can’t access, they will use a smaller low
1
ground pressure personnel carrier (https://argoxtv.com/vehicles/frontier-650-6x6) to access the area and use muck
probes or hand augers to drill shallow holes that do not require clearing.
They may have to cut a downed tree if it is in the way, or the occasional sapling (2-3” diam) if it gets caught up in the
tracks of the rig, but they do not plan to hand clear any areas as typically defined by the agencies.
Let us know if this answer is not sufficient or if USACE has any other questions.
Mike, please chime in if I have mis-stated anything.
