Hi Doug,
Please find the attached buffer form. The deck square footage we are proposing to add is 85 square feet.
Image 4293 was before the decks to the right were removed, looking up from the dock. The three others are from after
the deck removal, only the rails and the decking removed from the section we would like to keep and refresh. I can get
some better photos from different angles if you need them.

So in reviewing your Buffer Authorization application, I had a few comments/questions. First, if you could fill out
and return to me the attached Catawba Riparian Buffer form, that would be most appreciated. I've attached it in two
formats. Please use which ever one works best for you. Second, it appears that you are expanding the current deck in
the buffer. I need to know the square footage of new deck that will be added on. Also, if you could send some photos
of the current condition of the buffer, that would be most appreciated.

It typically depends on when the application comes in and if there's a backlog of applications before it. Right now,
I'm the only one processing applications, so it may take a bit longer than normal. We are typically given about 3o
days from when the application is assigned to us, unless there are questions/concerns with the project, then we can
place the project on hold until the issue is figured out.

Yes those should be good to add to the application. Make sure to also include a diagram of the work that is
proposed to be done along with the square footage of the impact. The agent of a project is usually someone who is
filling out the application for the homeowner, however for the Buffer form, everyone involved should sign it. This
lets me know that everyone will comply with the rules.

For your project, you will need written approval from NCDWR:

If you go to the link above, scroll down to the buffer authorization header and you
will find the online application. (YOU DO NOT have to do the pre file notification).
Please include in application the following:
Current photos of the buffer
A plat of your property (can be obtained from your local county GIS website)
Aerial photos (can be obtained from your local county GIS website)
A work/site diagram that includes the following:
A vicinity location map (can be obtained from Google Maps)
A signed version (by all parties involved) of the Catawba Riparian Buffer form
(attached)

Trees are not allowed to be removed from Zone 1 of the Buffer ( within 30 ft of the full pond elevation ) , unless
approved . Exception, those trees that are severely undermined along the immediate shoreline can be

Work to be conducted from land must indicate an access and indicate any trees that are to be removed . The
work corridor should be described . The approved access corridor shall be restated . Staging, spoiIfr construction
material must be outside the buffer. [ 15A NCAC 02H . 0502 and 15A NCAC 02B .0243 (4 ), ( 6 ), ( 8 ) )
Stormwater cannot be piped or channeled for direct discharge to the lake . All constructed stormwater
discharges must be at the natural elevation and discharged prior to entering the buffer directed as diffuse or
sheet flow at non -erosive velocities to the take. ( 15A NCAC 02B 0243 ( 5 ) , ( 6))
