This inspection was conducted to determine whether the facility is being operated and maintained in compliance with the Permit #WQ0024694 and assess the pond embankment. Since the last inspection, Bright’s Creek has reopened the golf course. The cover crop appears to have improved. Aqua owns and operates the WWTP and has an easement to spray irrigate the golf course. Kace oversees irrigation events for the facility. Bright’s Creek maintains the golf course. Irrigation of the golf course was not observed during the inspection due to heavy rain. A follow-up will be conducted later this year to observe the operation of the irrigation system. The ORC calibrates the turbidimeter and flow meter annually. ADFs have slightly increased. The facility is only averaging 3,500 gpd. No issues reported with treatment and the aeration basin appears to be a healthy color. The system sits below grade and covered by grating. No algal growth observed on the clarifier weir in the active train. Two trains are installed but only one is in use. Generator: The generator self-tests weekly under load. No issues with fuel as it is supplied by natural gas. The primary pump station’s generator is also supplied by natural gas. CS: Aqua maintains the collection system and provides educational material for system users. The clubhouse does have a restaurant and grease trap, but the ORC reports they are not currently using their fryer. No issues reported with grease, rags and debris coming into the facility. Solids Management: Solids were pumped from the facility in February by Lake Norman Septic. Facility requires minimal solids removal due to low flows. Disinfection: ORC maintains at least one chlorine tube in use in addition to the UV system. All bulbs were functional at the time of the inspection. Aqua has discussed installing permanent steps for easier access to the UV banks and chlorinator tubes; however, space is limited. 5-day & Wet Weather Ponds: Both ponds had adequate freeboard during the inspection. ORC reports levels can increase significantly during heavy rain events but has not exceeded freeboard requirements. It is recommended Aqua coordinate with Kace to increase irrigation as needed to avoid the potential for exceeding freeboard during wet weather events. Vegetation is beginning to re-establish on the 5-day pond embankment and no major signs of erosion were noted during the inspection. Off-spec water: Effluent exceeding 10 NTUs is automatically diverted; however, effluent that exceeds fecal limits cannot be immediately diverted due to sample processing. Some off-spec water is ultimately routed to the wet weather pond. Irrigation: As a reminder, the irrigation equipment will need to be calibrated/checked before the end of the permit cycle. If this has already been completed, Kace and/or Aqua should submit the data to the ARO. The golf course has reopened which may affect the irrigation schedule. Division guidance on calibration of irrigation equipment is attached. Total build out is over 300 lots. Currently just over 30 residences built, and most are part-time or vacation homes. Flows are not projected to increase significantly anytime soon. The two trains are adequate for current flows.
