Jerry is going to provide me with more information about the specific location and I’ll send an engineer out to assess the
site. Most likely it will be Brian Lipscomb. Brian is overseeing our update of the BMP Toolbox so he is very familiar with
a wide range of stormwater management options.

We’ll coordinate through Jerry so you have a consistent chain of communication.

Hey Andy,
Ryan and I met with Div 7 DEOs (Jerry Parker and Della Moore) this morning on U-3109
(Mebane Bypass) to discuss a stormwater drainage issue at a permit site, of which we believe
may be an excellent candidate for a stormwater BMP (stormwater wetland perhaps). The area
in question is used as an erosion control sedimentation basin (a converted old farm pond) at
the toe of a fill slope (picture attached). The original plan was to fill the pond and construct a
rip rap lined ditch below the existing dam to transport stormwater to a downstream JS. Jerry
is concerned that this will not work because of the volume/intensity of stormwater discharge
and existing wetland conditions at the toe of slope. Ryan and I suggested that a more
formalized stormwater BMP would be more appropriate provided better treatment.

The downstream receiving stream is WS-II; HQW; NSW-Jordan Lake Buffers.

So, please assess and let us know if a stormwater BMP would be feasible at this location and if
you would like to meet out there to take a closer look or if you need more info.
