MBI Task 2 Site Walk
ANDERSON FARM II MITIGATION BANK PARCEL‐ Mount Olive, NC
The Anderson Farm II Mitigation Bank Parcel (Parcel) is in Wayne County approximately 6 miles
northeast of the town of Mount Olive. The Parcel is directly adjacent to the North Carolina Division of
Mitigation Services (NCDMS) Anderson Farm Mitigation Site and was restored to provide ecological and
water quality enhancements to the Neuse River Basin by restoring the riparian buffer along three
unnamed tributaries (UT1, UT2, and UT3), and one ditch (Ditch A). Buffer widths within the NCDMS
project extend up to 100 feet from the tops of banks of UT1, UT2, and most of UT3. The Parcel extends
these buffer widths another 100 feet, creating a total of 200 feet of functional riparian corridor along
UT1, UT2, and UT3. Additionally, Ditch A is buffered from the top of bank to 200 feet. Prior to mitigation
activities the Parcel was used to produce row crops. Tables 1 and 2 contain project overview and credit
applicability information.

Approximately 15.95 acres have been protected under the conservation easement. The mitigation
activity for 14.35 acres was riparian restoration, of which 0.92 acres are proposed for buffer mitigation
credit while 13.43 acres are proposed for nutrient offset credit. The Buffer Interpretation /Clarification
Memo #2008‐019 applies to Ditch A where maintenance of diffuse flow onsite is unattainable, therefore
a total of 1,982 square feet have been removed from the creditable area of Ditch A.
The land use within 200 feet from top of bank of the project features had been maintained and cleared
for row crop cultivation prior to restoration activities; therefore, soil disturbance during project planting
was minimal. Bare root trees were planted using a dibble bar at a spacing of 7 feet by 12 feet, which
resulted in a stem density of 502 stems per acre. Prior to planting, herbaceous cover established
naturally, therefore seeding was deemed unnecessary. Table 3 includes a list of tree species planted
along with their density and composition at planting.

Easement boundaries have been identified in the field to ensure clear distinction between the Parcel
and adjacent properties. Boundaries are identified by 6 foot “t posts” with attached easement placards.
Signage along the outer perimeter of the Parcel has been placed at 100‐foot intervals where the
easement does not directly parallel the NCDMS conservation easement. In areas where the Parcel

easement directly parallels the NCDMS easement, NCDMS placards have been placed so that they are
within the range of 100 to 200 feet apart.
