The NC DEQ, Division of Water Resources (DWR), Water Quality Regional Operations Section
(WQROS), has reviewed the Wastewater Treatment Plant Pond and Lagoon Closure Plan for the Former
Performance Fibers Facility (located in Chatham County, NC) prepared by WithersRavenel.
The submitted closure plan appears consistent with the DEQ's Guidelines for the Closure of Permitted
Waste Pond and Lagoons, addressing key issues such as the listing of closure options and requirements,
historical site considerations, disposal plans for wastewater and sludge, and sampling & analysis data. We
plan to conduct an onsite inspection at the end of the closure process.
It is recognized that some uncertainty associated with the operational aspects of the closure may require
changes or adjustments to the proposed closure activities. Please be sure to keep us informed during the
closure process.
